Stakeholder Relations

National Grid's experienced stakeholder relations team is committed to working closely with stakeholders throughout the project.  Stakeholders are all those who have an interest in the proposed project, such as local officials, residents, businesses, environmental and conservation organizations and state senators and representatives throughout the project.

The team provides all interested stakeholders opportunities to learn more about the project through a number of outreach activities.

Public Outreach

The following are some of the outreach activities that have already taken place.

  • Briefings to Massachusetts and Rhode Island state and local officials
  • Preferred solutions were communicated to Massachusetts and Rhode Island state and local officials during summer
  • Right-of-way (ROW) audits conducted that identified residences that are adjacent to the ROW in Massachusetts and Rhode Island
  • Outreach to property owners adjacent to the ROW in Massachusetts and Rhode Island will continue throughout the project
  • Media briefings

  • General public open house events Massachusetts and Rhode Island

    Expanded Public Outreach

In an effort to constantly improve our public outreach we have expanded our efforts for the Interstate Reliability Project to include:

  • Our earliest and most comprehensive outreach effort ever
  • A Background Document (PDF). This document contains a summary of the project written for a non-technical audience.
  • Google Earth route simulations that allow us to show residents, businesses, community leaders and state officials their property or area of interest in relation to the project.
  • A budget to address unauthorized ROW access
  • A contact database to create detailed tracking for all contact with those interested in the project

Upcoming Public Outreach

Other opportunities for public information and input include:

  • Email lists and notifications for project events
  • Local public hearings
  • Energy Facilities Board Hearings
